Let’s start with the real mystery. Several interlocutors who were with Navalny, both in the Vladimir Region Correctional Facility and in IK-3, stated that while the politician was there, Igor Nesterenko appeared, who was known as an employee of the operational department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation. Nesterenko is one of the extremely dark figures for the penal system. He was known as the organizer of torture of prisoners in IK-18 (a neighboring colony to IK-3). He was acquitted by the court, and now he is…an employee of Gazprom headquarters in St. Petersburg. 
The personality of Igor Nesterenko is more than remarkable. In 2021, he found himself in the dock with Alexander Ageev (a killer from the Tver Wolves gang who killed chansonnier Mikhail Krug) and Nazi Alexei Voevodin, known by the nickname SVR (“Made in Russia”). They were accused of organizing torture in the press hut and killing unwanted FSIN representatives convicted on the go-ahead. As the Cheka-OGPU found out, on the basis of a jury trial, they were acquitted by the Salekhard court in 2022. Nesterenko himself told the channel’s journalists that he had never been to IK-3 or IK-6, and after being acquitted by the court, he left for St. Petersburg, where he got a job at Gazprom headquarters. However, sources say that Nesterenko continues to work closely with the Federal Penitentiary Service and special services, carrying out special assignments in Russian colonies. Eyewitnesses from IK-6 and IK-3 clearly say that Nesterenko was with them when Navalny was there. From Nesterenko’s social networks you can find that he added photographs from Vladimir, where Alexey Navalny was already being held at that moment.
