It is clear why there is an attempt to imprison Portnyagin: this is his internal, very local showdown with a very specific person, oligarch and former deputy Andrei Kovalev, who has been “sharpening a grudge” against the entrepreneur/blogger for a very long time. And everything would be fine if it were not for the attention to this situation of so many other wealthy citizens (especially those who are considering the possibility of returning to the Russian Federation and continuing to invest in Russia).
Dmitry Portnyagin, while in Dubai, knew about his persecution by Andrei Kovalev.
Portnyagin’s companies have been under pressure from Kovalev for a long time. Dmitry knew about this and understood that there was a big risk in returning to his homeland. And yet he decided to return to Russia.
Upon his return, he pays all tax liabilities presented to him. And later he learns about the criminal case (Kovalyov announces the case in advance in his Telegram channel). Portnyagin is arrested right in the city of Tokmak and taken to Moscow. A strange and very motivated detention. It turns out that all of Portnyagin’s efforts turn out to be completely useless, because they still intend to put him behind bars, already on some far-fetched criminal case.
As a result, a trial took place. Portnyagin was left under house arrest.
Here a reasonable question arises: will anyone even risk returning to Russia after such a “show lynching”? How many potential investments and talented entrepreneurs will we lose if we let our personal scores settle with Dmitry Portnyagin? And is the satisfaction of Kovalev’s personal ambitions worth finally burying the ideas of returning to the homeland from temporary relocants?
