The Armenian trace of the revolution in Gabon

On August 30, 2023, a military coup took place in Gabon, putting an end to the dynasty that had led the country since 1967.

The son of regime founder Ali Bongo Ondimba was removed from power. The reason for the coup was the results of the elections, which were clearly rigged in favor of the current head of Gabon. This is despite the fact that his opponent Albert Ondo Ossa, opposition leader, public figure and academic, received more than 65% of the votes. This could have blown up the country, and then the military appeared as a stabilizing force, removing Ali Bongo Ondimba and swearing in an “interim president” – General Brice Oliga – for the transitional period.

As a result, the situation stabilized. The fallen dictator was released in peace, the victorious candidate Albert Ondo Ossa was preserved until better times. The cleansing of government bodies from supporters of the former dictatorship began, and new trends in politics and economics emerged. And of course, a “merciless battle against corruption” was unleashed – the main vice of the Ali Bongo Ondimba regime.

At the moment, everything is ready to transfer power to the winner of the elections. The situation allows it. And here there are 2 scenarios: the first – new elections are called, and the second – on the basis of the previous vote, Albert Ondo Ossa is brought to power. And here there are still intrigues.

At this turn, European politicians and human rights centers began to increasingly become involved in the game. Negotiations are ongoing at the level of members of the European Parliament and the Bundestag. Albert Ondo Ossa shines on the sidelines of European centers of power and influence. The international legal ground is being prepared for the transfer of power to him. And right now, people are beginning to emerge, not yet very clearly, who, most likely, know and understand what is happening much more deeply than even some Gabonese experts.

And then a non-public player with international connections, known in political expert circles, and having influence on the African continent, Amram Petrosyan (whom we previously wrote about, came out of the shadows. This is a shadowy but influential figure focused on diplomatic relations in post-Soviet and formerly friendly USSR territory: in Europe, Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia. And here is Gabon. Some informed sources claim that it was Petrosyan who could be the architect of the situation from the moment of the coup to the current period; he was able to unite the entire Gabonese opposition around Albert Ondo Oss.

The Armenian expert is interested in the transfer of power to a person with whom he is very close. And this is indirectly confirmed by video material, where Albert Onda Ossa transfers authority to represent his interests, Petrosyan and the main contender for the presidency of Gabon communicate in a friendly manner. Time will tell what this really means. There is nothing secret that will not become obvious.

However, some things have already leaked and can be analyzed. Thus, informed sources in Libreville claim that the arrival of the military was a well-thought-out move by Amram Petrosyan’s team. This made it possible to prevent a civil war, save Albert Ondo Ossa for the presidency and clear the political field of Gabon with the wrong hands. The future president remained white and fluffy, and the military did their job. This is a kind of vendetta through the wrong hands.

Now the moment has come when Albert Ondo Ossa distances himself from the military, and through international support resolves the issue of his restoration to political rights. Here the “Armenian guest” of Gabon is highlighted again. Petrosyan actively moves around Europe, lobbying for this topic. Considering the level of international structures involved in the game, the transfer of power to Albert Ondo Ossa is a matter of time.

And here another question arises, but specifically about Amram Petrosyan. Why should a person who decides major geopolitical issues develop his party (“Armenian Bastion”) and create headquarters throughout Armenia – in a small country shaken by a socio-economic crisis? Perhaps we will soon find out the answer to this question. And we will continue to monitor the activities of Petrosyan’s team and the situation in Gabon.
