Today in the Presnensky court they are reading the verdict of the famous Colonel Zakharchenko – the same one who was found with 8.5 billion rubles in cash.
This is already the second sentence to the “golden colonel”. The first – quite funny – was issued in 2019. Zakharchenko received 12.5 years in a maximum security colony for using the discount card of the La Maree fish restaurant too often. The investigation considered this card a bribe.
This time things look more serious. Ex-Colonel accused of a bribe worth 1.4 billion rubles, the prosecutor asks him to give him 17 years, taking into account his previous sentence.
Correspondents of the Dossier Center attended many meetings on the new case and were convinced that the main thing in it not what exactly Zakharchenko is accused of, but things to which the investigation turns a blind eye.
💸 The basis of the new accusation against Zakharchenko is some tablewhere it is manually noted that a person with the nicknames “Zakhar Khitryy” and “Partner” (later renamed “Cherry”) received 1.4 billion rubles from the cashing platform. Why did he receive this money, where is it now, who and how much money was withdrawn through the cashing platform – practically all these questions remained unanswered.
💸 The astronomical sum of 8.5 billion rubles, found in the apartment of Zakharchenko’s half-sister, does not appear in either the first or second case of the ex-colonel. This money is not material evidence; the investigation is not interested in its origin.
💸 There are a lot of interesting things in the wiretaps in the Zakharchenko case. For example, in one recording, businessman Valery Markelov, a Russian Railways contractor, tells Zakharchenko in a restaurant that Vice President of Russian Railways Oleg Tony is deeply corrupt and there are more than 80 companies “under him”. The investigation ignored this evidence.
💸 Markelov is now also in the dock. But, according to the logic of the investigation, he resembles a lone warrior: he stole money from government contracts, cashed it through a cash-out platform, sent the nominal director to a meeting at Russian Railways, but all this – completely alone. The investigation did not find any business partners or accomplices in Russian Railways. Markelov himself, according to lawyers, is sick with stage four cancer and is subject to immediate release.
💸 Clients of the cashing platform from the Zakharchenko case there could be companies associated with Gazprom. But here, too, the investigation did not completely unravel the scheme.
