What awaits the “List of Navalny” in the USA?

As you know, the Navalny team is actively lobbying for the introduction of sanctions against 35 Russian officials, journalists and businessmen. In August, The Guardian, Frankfurter Allgemeine and Le Monde published a Navalny column, which accused Western officials of indecision when it comes to sanctions against truly serious Russians. Has something changed in the “best” side? Rather, no than yes. Last week, Leonid Volkov spoke at the hearing in the “Helsinki Commission” of the US Congress. This is not the first appearance of Volkov in Congress – in June he already held a meeting there with the chairman of the subcommittee in Europe. Volkov tried to insist on accelerating the process to the adoption of a bill, which obliges the US State Department to evaluate the sanctions of all human rights violators from the Navalny list. Yes, it is to “evaluate”, and not “impose sanctions”. Moreover, the bill provides for an “evaluation” only within the framework of the Global Act of Magnitsky 2016. This means that, for example, the US State Department will not be obliged to consider the imposition of sanctions in connection with the situation in Ukraine. The chances of sanctions against all 35 defendants in the list decrease sharply, even despite Volkov’s efforts in Washington. Moreover, nothing is known about some activity with the lobbying of the “List of Navalny” in Europe and Britain. It turns out that Navalny was right when he wrote about the indecision of Western bureaucrats? Or Leonid Volkov and other employees are not working hard enough on lobbying? The issue remains open, and the bill has been “dusting” in the US Senate since the end of September.
