⚡️⚡️⚡️The government has proposed depriving lawyers of their status in a new way.

And yet unique minds work in power! At the beginning of the year, draft amendments to the law “On Advocacy and the Bar” were submitted to the State Duma, which tightened the requirements for candidates for lawyers, introduced a unified state register of lawyers and regulated the status of the information system for providing free legal assistance.

🔥The amendments were read, but the government commission proposed adding another provision to the law:

“The status of a lawyer is terminated by the council of the Bar Chamber in the presence of a conclusion from the qualification commission if it is revealed that the lawyer has left Russia for permanent residence or for a period of more than one year.”.

📌There are, of course, formal exceptions:

– travel for treatment or training
– accompaniment of family members sent to perform labor or other functions by government bodies or Russian organizations
– leaving for other valid reasons

‼️What are the motives of the initiator of the amendments? Nothing new – everything is on the surface:

“According to information received by the Russian Ministry of Justice, there are cases when lawyers left for a long time or left for permanent residence in foreign jurisdictions, including states unfriendly to Russia, and continue their activities, including those aimed at undermining trust in the institution of the legal profession “.

⁉️Personally, I have the following questions:

– Is the Ministry of Justice aware of Article 27 of the Constitution?

– How is it supposed to control the presence of specific individuals in Russia, without violating their constitutional rights to private life, for example?

– there are no Russian companies or individuals abroad who need legal assistance?

– Do the mechanisms of deprivation of status, as exemplified by Feigin and Novikov, sufficiently meet the goals and objectives of the fight against anti-state freethinking?

– Why are lawyers who do not live in Russia worse than ordinary citizens who are not here?
