In June 2017, the myth of “Wagner’s sledgehammer” was born: it was then PMC mercenaries executed a Syrian with extreme cruelty El-Ismaila. The man was tortured in a sophisticated way, then scored sledgehammer and the body was dismembered and set on fire.

It was possible to find the executioners of “Wagner” thanks to materials of the internal investigation of the Prigozhin PMC. But “special officers” investigated It’s not this terrible crime, but the circumstances under which the torture video went viral– after all, it is strictly prohibited for Wagner militants to bring phones on business trips.
The name of one killer was known before – this Stanislav Dychko with the call sign “Scarab”, Novaya Gazeta wrote about him in detail back in 2019. Dychko, as the “Dossier” found out, canceled the execution not on his own initiative, but on instructions from the commandand he was not fired or punished. “Scarab” left Wagner in 2019 for health reasons – after the publication of a video of torture, he ended up in a military hospital with depressive syndrome. The man died in 2021.
Another Wagner militant, Mikhail Masharov with the call sign “Moor,” also filmed the execution – but on his own initiative, for which he was punished, he was fired without the right to reinstatement in the PMC. He worked at Yandex.Taxi.
Other participants in the massacre included former employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a Cossack and an assistant to a deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Their names are in the Dossier Center’s investigation.
