The four-star Xanadu in the town of Kumbor is registered to the company of Irina Chemezova, from whom the official is officially divorced, but lives together, raising three children. Chemezova is also the owner of real estate worth more than 1 million euros in the town of Igalo.
Irina Chemezova applied for a residence permit in Montenegro and applied for citizenship, but the coronavirus prevented the registration, and now Montenegrins have joined anti-Russian sanctions. The Chemezovs were required to provide information about the origin of several million euros with which real estate was purchased. It will be difficult to prove their legality – the official’s wife’s income is insignificant, and his own modest income declaration is available on the Internet. In addition, in 2019, the Chemezovs bought a luxury apartment in Yekaterinburg for 100 million rubles.
Chemezov, who was hiding his residence permit, planned to sell Xanadu due to large losses during the coronavirus epidemic. His “kickback” schemes in the Sverdlovsk region barely covered them. In the spring, the Chemezovs were supposed to fly to the deal, but a special operation intervened.
Now the spouses cannot leave Russia without problems, and their real estate is threatened with confiscation. In addition, the Montenegrin authorities may make public a decision to cancel the Chemezovs’ residence permit, and then the competent authorities of Russia will have questions about the vice-governor.
