Two Russians were detained in Sweden on suspicion of espionage. Presumably they are connected with the GRU

At 6 am on November 22, Swedish law enforcement agencies conducted an operation near Stockholm with the participation of armed forces. According to an eyewitness, operatives went down to the suspects’ house directly from helicopters — the entire detention took only a minute. The head of the operational department of the Swedish police said that such measures were necessary, so that the Russians do not have time to “flush documents down the toilet or destroy computers.”

Dossier Center and Swedish publication Expressen found out who the detained Russians were. This is a married couple – Sergei Skvortsov (1963) and Olga Kulkova (1964). They have lived in Sweden since 1997 and, in addition to Russian citizenship, received Swedish citizenship.

Both have education in the field of electronics and technology. Kulkova graduated from the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Moscow State University, and Skvortsov studied at the Moscow Energy Institute, as follows from their accounts on Odnoklassniki.

For an unknown reason Skvortsov has two tax identification numbers – although taxpayer numbers are unique and are issued only once. What’s even more unusual is Different companies are registered under these TINs. On the first TIN, Skvortsov has a company for the wholesale trade of food products (SOLVEIG COMPANY LLC) and a company for copying sound recordings (MITOS COMPANY LLC). On the second – a food production company (Kazachye TPO CJSC) and a construction a company that entered into contracts with Gazprom subsidiaries (LM SPETSSTROYMONTAZH LLC).

Swedish law enforcement authorities believe that Skvortsov engaged in aggressive espionage against Sweden and another unnamed country at least since 2013. His wife is accused of assisting in the crime. Just in 2013, the spouses’ profiles on Odnoklassniki stopped updating.

According to his LinkedIn account, Skvortsov was the director of BDT Stockholm AB, which specializes in production, testing, export and import of electronic components. Among other things, the company exported to Russia. Judging by the profile of the company and the education of the spouses, it is possible assume that their activities were related to GRU electronic intelligence. As is known, the department is actively engaged in technical espionage.

The Dossier Center will monitor developments.
