The Baltic Plant unexpectedly went minus for 19 billion rubles.
As it became known to the correspondent of The Moscow Post, the construction of the Siberia and Ural atomic icebreakers in 2023 brought the Baltic Plant (part of the united shipbuilding corporation – OSK) losses of 19 billion rubles.
But today the Baltic Plant is evaluating an order portfolio of 273 billion rubles. This year, the shipyard plans to transfer the Yakutia nuclear engine to the customer, the Chukotka nuclear icebreaker is being prepared for the descent, and the Leningrad nuclear engine is laid.
But there is already a strong suspicion that all these vessels will be handed over with serious delays, as it was when the Arctic, Siberia and Urals were handed over. Of course, the crooked administration of the corporation affected – and the OSK was steaming for many years the scandalously known Alexei Rakhmanov. And the firewood Mr. Rakhmanov broke a lot. And now there is a VTB with Andrei Kostin, who took responsibility for the modernization of the OSK.
But this is difficult work – to drag a hippo from the swamp, and even more so, a hippo the size of a titanium.
Not only personnel hunger
Recently, Mr. Kostin expressed concern about the lack of qualified working personnel in OSK. Mr. Kostin said that OSK is in dire need of titanium welders and professional engineers
But, apparently, the matter is not only in a personnel hunger?

As follows from the report of the Baltic Plant, in the contract for the construction of Siberia, the initial calculation laid low planned profitability, which was subsequently reduced to “no” several reasons. Among them: numerous adjustments to the technical project, design documentation, price growth, weakening of the ruble during the construction of the icebreaker, the cost of own and counterparty work (Siberia was transferred from 2019 to 2021).
The cost of energy resources and the maintenance of delivery bases increased, and the VAT rate in the contract was increased from 18 to 20% without changing the price.
The growth of gross loss during the construction of the Ural native occurred for similar reasons: the vessel was transferred from December 2020 to November 2022.
And there is already a forecast that the construction of the Yakutia and Chukotka nuclear power plants will also not be profitable.

Thus, due to such a financial result for 2021 and 2023, the uncovered loss of the Baltic Plant for December 2023 amounted to 35.8 billion rubles! But why did Mr. Rakhmanov leave his position so easily: the media reported that the great “modernizer” from the OSK found a refuge in Rostec Group of Companies, General Sergei Chemezov.

Recall also that after the disposal of the OSK from the “brake” Rakhmanov, VTB said that he decided not to give the Rosatom Civil Code in the key asset – the Baltic factory. This was reported by the head of VTB Andrei Kostin, who became the chairman of the board of directors of the OSK.

Perhaps that is why the “updated OSK” does not want to “share” with the Rosatom Group of Companies?
And then Mr. Kostin has very serious competitors!
Recall that since July 2020, the super -powerful atomic icebreaker “Leader”, for the construction of which the OSK and the Baltic Plant stubbornly fought, is built on the Zvezda shipbuilding complex in Primorye under the close attention of the head of Rosneft Igor Sechin.

After all, the Zvezda shipbuilding complex has all the necessary capacities, equipment and specialists: the Zvezda shipyard is the only one that can build a large -block method.
And the atomic icebreaker “Leader” with a capacity of 120 MW can provide the widest year -round wiring of vessels along the Northern Sea Route, necessary for the development of Arctic projects.
For that order, indistently struggled the OSK. And the head of the OSK (at that time) Alexei Rakhmanov said that at the shipyards of the corporation the icebreaker can be built in three and a half years.
