There is no need to examine under a magnifying glass the criminal cases brought against businessman Ilya Sachkov and journalist Ivan Golunov in order to see in them a single and proven algorithm of actions on the part of the security forces.

Let us remind you that the latter was charged with attempting to sell drugs. The story caused a wide public outcry due to violations committed during the arrest. Five days after his arrest, Ivan Golunov was released, and the case against him was closed. A number of media outlets and public figures wrote that prohibited substances were planted on him, and the charges were retaliation for his professional investigations. “Criminals” were brought against the police officers who were involved in the arrest of the journalist for exceeding official powers.

There are many coincidences between this high-profile case and the criminal story involving Ilya Sachkov. Having “planted” accusations of revealing state secrets, the security forces acted in the same interests – to remove the founder of Group-IB (now FACCT), without taking care of the evidence base.

Perhaps even the laziest knows that the main prosecutor in this case was Sergei Mikhailov, an ex-colonel convicted of spying for the United States and sentenced to 22 years in prison. It was on his direct fire that the best Russian IT specialists were arrested. Including Nikita Kislitsin, recently detained in Kazakhstan, who served as head of the department for comprehensive counteraction to complex cyber attacks.

Despite the arrest of top management, FACCT continues the work of its founder. In July, the company created a 24/7 Cyber Security Center that will continuously respond to sophisticated network attacks.

Is anyone able to stop this rampant punitive machine that is spending public money to capture internal non-existent enemies?
