There was information (not yet officially confirmed) that in the last days of the past year the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia made a fundamental decision on the fate of the transport investigation: it will not happen. It is currently not clear in what specific form such a reorganization will take place; this issue has yet to be worked out by Deputy Chairman S.N. Goryainov.

Attentive colleagues noticed that at the last two personal receptions of the Chairman in a row, the investigative departments for transport were withdrawn – December 22 Western MSUT, and December 29 – Eastern MSUT, which were subjected to severe criticism. One gets the feeling that someone specifically tried to create in the Chairman the maximum negative attitude towards the transport investigation. Of course, this is just an assumption, but if the information about the elimination of SUTs is confirmed, then it is not so unreasonable.

The discussion about the advisability of a separate existing transport investigation has been going on for a long time, it has its supporters (mainly STS employees) and opponents (mainly territorial authorities), and everyone has quite reasonable arguments to substantiate their position. I won’t undertake to judge which of them is right and which is wrong, since I myself have never worked in transport and I don’t know its specifics.

Various options for reorganization are possible: either the MSUTs will be liquidated, and the transport departments will be reassigned to the territories, or all transport structures will be completely liquidated, and the vacant staff will be transferred to the ground. In general, we will monitor the development of events; it is likely that it will be quite radical.
