The widow of a policeman who died in an attack by Hamas militants told the Cheka-OGPU details of the tragedy. Yulia, a native of Rostov, and Vitaly, a native of Belarusian Mogilev, have been in Israel for a long time. The head of the family (they lost their father: an 18-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son) moved to the promised land from a young age. He served in the army as a tank driver and medic, and participated in the military conflict between Israel and Lebanon. Afterwards, Vitaly joined the police, trained as a criminologist, and even succeeded: shortly before the tragedy, he was promoted to a senior position and given the opportunity to move to a leadership position. Initially, Vitaly did not plan to go to the music party; he had plans to guard the event last Thursday in Tel Aviv, but at the last moment everything fell through. Vitaly was in touch with his wife from the very beginning of the attack (at around 06.30) until approximately 08.00 in the morning. He sent a video of the siren working and talked about the shelling. Then the connection became intermittent, the last thing he answered to his wife’s questions was “later” and “not now.” After this, the criminologist disappeared from contact. The woman sounded the alarm, but her colleagues admitted their own powerlessness: Yulia was told that there were a lot of terrorists in the area of ​​the border with Gaza and it was impossible to get there. Closer to 17.00, the unfortunate woman was informed that her husband had been killed. According to the employees, the entire area was cordoned off and the police were not allowed there. 37 bodies of guards were found at the scene, all of them dead. Several more people from the security service are still missing. None of the guards have yet managed to get out alive. Vitaly was shot with an AKM, his chest was shot through – the shots were aimed at the Star of David on his chest. And the last shot, apparently, was a control shot – in the face. The widow was given a bent star, a name patch and a wedding ring. According to preliminary data, there were about one and a half thousand militants in the area where the rave took place. Vitaly was buried in a closed coffin in a military cemetery in Jerusalem.
