The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation satisfied the claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office for the liquidation of the international historical and educational society “Memorial” (recognized as a foreign agent).

“It is obvious that Memorial, speculating on the topic of political repression of the 20th century, creates a false image of the USSR as a terrorist state, whitewashes and rehabilitates Nazi criminals, on whose hands the blood of Soviet citizens,” said State Prosecutor General Alexey Zhafyarov.

“Why now we, the descendants of the victors, are forced to watch the rehabilitation of traitors to the motherland and Nazi collaborators… Probably because someone is paying for it. And this is the real reason for the fierce rejection with which Memorial denies its status foreign agent,” the prosecutor continued.

He noted that in recent years, Memorial has never once approached the Prosecutor General’s Office with a request to recognize anyone as a victim of repression. According to him, the Memorial was created to perpetuate historical memory, but recently it has focused on its distortion – primarily the memory of the Great Patriotic War.

Bearing in mind these motives, the state has every reason to believe that the violations committed by Memorial, related to the failure to indicate its status as a foreign agent, can be regarded as a gross violation of the law, Zhafyarov concluded.
