In 2010, the late Hovhannes Kamaryan had a conflict with Rafik Madoyan (Kyavartsi Rafo), who is the founder of the Shashlyk-Mashlyk and Nani Tun companies. Also, the latter is known as an “authority” who was part of the inner circle of thief in law Aslan Usoyan (Ded Hassan). Madoyan was friends with the underworld general Alik Banduryan, who was crowned Grandfather Hasan.
The conflict between Kamaryan and Madoyan quickly escalated into a real war. In 2011, the first attempt on Rafo occurred. At the house on Sayanskaya Street in Moscow, where he lived, a sniper shot at him. But the killer was only able to wound the businessman’s security guard in the shoulder. In 2013, there was another attack on Madoyan.
According to the Armenian security forces, Hovhannes Kamaryan turned to his friend, Sargis Zazyan and relative David Ziroyan. He promised 500 thousand dollars and a mansion in Spain for killing an opponent. Zazyan turned to Varuzhan Karimyan, offering to monitor Madoyan for a fee of one thousand dollars a month. Karimyan agreed and managed to earn 3 thousand. During this time, the organizers tried to find the perpetrator, but information leaked from one of the potential killers. The plans for reprisals were thwarted and Kamaryan and Zazyan moved to Moscow. But the attempts to remove Rafo did not end there.
In 2018, a new attempt was made on Madoyan in the United States. The bullets hit him in the chest, but the businessman miraculously survived. And in 2021, Madoyan was shot again in Yerevan. The killer opened fire, but Rafo managed to escape in an armored car. As a result, his driver-bodyguard was killed. It was the brother of the deceased, Hayrik Yervandyan, who shot Hovhannes Kamaryan in the summer of 2022, motivated by blood feud.
It is noteworthy that shortly before the murder, in February 2022, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained Kamaryan as a person wanted by Armenia. But he was released and continued to work quietly together with Sargis Zazyan, who is still listed as a co-founder of the company along with the son of Hovhannes.
According to the Cheka-OGPU, Sargis Zazyan recently applied to the traffic police department to re-register his car. The database contained information that he was wanted in the case of organizing a contract killing in Armenia. The partner of the murdered Kamaryan was detained on the spot and placed in a temporary detention facility.
