The state prosecution asked for long sentences for three defendants in a murder case stemming from a quarrel in a school chat room in Volgograd. During the debate in the Central District Court of the city, the prosecutor asked to find them guilty of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm by a group of persons by prior conspiracy out of hooligan motives, which negligently resulted in the death of the victim (Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and incitement to it. The defendants admit partial guilt.

As reported in the joint press service of the courts of the Volgograd region, the state prosecution asked to find Arsen Melkonyan guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 119 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (threat of murder), part 4 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and sentence him to 13 years of imprisonment to be served in a high-security correctional colony. Anna Melkonyan under Part 4 of Art. 33, paragraph “a”, part 3, art. 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement to cause grievous bodily harm) sentence Arman Smbatyan to seven years in a general regime colony under Part 4 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – ten years in a maximum security colony.

The conflict between Roman Grebenyuk and Anna Melkonyan occurred in October 2020 in a school chat, where parents of sixth-graders discussed their children’s homework. After this, according to the investigation, Anna complained about Mr. Grebenyuk to her brother Arsen Melkonyan and her husband Arman Smbatyan. In the evening of the same day, Arsen Melkonyan beat a man in the bank premises, causing him to die a few days later.
