The Infopraktik databases allowed detectives to find out a person’s place of registration, the license plate number and make of a car, the presence of a criminal record, administrative violations and other useful information, literally in a matter of minutes. Whereas drawing up departmental requests with a bunch of necessary signatures from management takes days, if not weeks.
The Infopraktik databases, collected by former employees of the FSB Directorate for St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region, functioned for many years. In addition to the employees of the police headquarters, they were used by the security services of many state corporations, banks and other organizations. Now their work is also practically paralyzed. It’s funny, but the FSB officers also used these same databases for convenience and speed.
According to the source, the real reason for the attacks on Infopraktika could be banal commerce – there is a group of employees in uniform who want to take over the information business.
