Szhenov is indeed widely known in university circles. But not only as an “outstanding” expert and organizer of events (which he does not organize).
First of all, Evgeny Szhenov for many years was the “decider” of the ex-Minister of Education and ex-Rector of RUDN University Vladimir Filippov. When he was the vice-rector of RUDN University, a criminal case was even initiated against Szhenov, but the boss managed to get rid of his ward.
Szhenov is also the creation and, in fact, the right hand of the odious HSE professor Isak Frumin, who was fired during a large-scale purge at HSE.
In recent years, Szhenov has positioned himself as a lobbyist in the field of higher education and regularly received money for solving personnel and accreditation issues of universities. Moreover, sources claim that Szhenov never had any real leverage to “resolve the issue,” since Valery Falkov considers him a toxic person and keeps his distance.
The Cheka-OGPU obtained documents confirming that Szhenov actually has a residence permit in Bulgaria, which has long been rumored. Szhenov has real estate and bank accounts in Bulgaria, operations on which were not suspended after February 22, 2022, and his wife also lives there.
Now questions have arisen for Szhenov, in particular, regarding the facts of extortion from university rectors for non-publication of negative information about them. Szhenov has been using the scheme to blackmail rectors for several years.
