“We are glad that on February 1, the first gas still began to arrive in Transnistria and the acuteness of the problem was removed. Nevertheless, it is necessary to find a constant solution to the issue of sustainable gas supply. The Russian side is ready to continue to assist it,” Polishchuk noted.

The diplomat recalled that about 220 thousand citizens of Russia live in Transnistria, and the region was on the verge of a humanitarian crisis.

Deliveries of gas in Transnistria and Moldova were suspended from January 1 amid disputes about the debt of “Moldovagaz” and stopping transit through Ukraine. This led to a serious energy crisis in an unrecognized republic.

On January 15, the head of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, said that gas supplies from Russia were possible as humanitarian assistance, but Moldova President Maya Sandu called such a decision illegal.

On January 30, Chisinau and Tiraspol reached preliminary agreements on gas supplies in Transnistria in February. Financing will be carried out due to a grant of the European Union in the amount of 30 million euros.
