Recently, Russian media published a very interesting investigation about the criminal case of Ilya Sachkov, the founder of GROUP-IB.

As follows from many publications, back in 2016, Sachkov and his employees helped expose an FSB colonel in the position of deputy head of the FSB Information Security Center, Sergei Mikhailov, of treason.

The FSB CIB is the very unit that was supposed to fight cyber threats. In 2019, Mikhailov and a number of his accomplices were convicted and it turned out that Mikhailov simply ratted out many Russian hackers.

Sachkov and his employees not only helped to expose Mikhailov, but also testified against him in court.

And now, several years later, Mikhailov, sentenced to 22 years and serving his sentence, accuses Sachkov himself of treason.

Of course, Sachkov’s case is classified as “secret”, but, in our opinion, this case requires public examination at the highest level. A successful international-level cyber specialist is tried on the basis of the testimony of a person convicted of treason.
