The murder of Spartak CEO Larisa Nechaeva in 1997 remains unsolved to this day. As we found out, the folder with the criminal case is gathering dust on the shelf of the prosecutor’s office of the Vladimir region. The chances of exposing the killers and customers are almost zero…

However, the case contains a letter from the senior investigator of the Main Directorate for Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police lieutenant colonel A. Derkach, to the head of the same department, Lieutenant General I. Khrapov, from which it is clear that the case was solved. But the collected materials were not allowed to proceed. The famous sports journalist Aleksey Matveev introduced this certificate to the readers of the Cheka-OGPU. We are publishing this information in two parts.

“I report that during the activities to identify the likely masterminds of the murder of the general director of the Spartak football club, the following was established. The vice-president of the club, G.V. Esaulenko, acts as director after the death of L.G. Nechaeva. While working as vice president, Esaulenko was involved in the acquisition and sale of football players. He pocketed part of the proceeds from the sale. Esaulenko was allocated funds to organize refereeing in custom matches. He did not report to anyone about spending money. With the arrival of Nechaeva, Esaulenko began to be removed from the above-mentioned duties. On this basis, they repeatedly had conflicts.

In addition, Esaulenko was seen in the company of the Chechen brothers Atlangirievs – Turpul and Movladi (Ruslan). The latter was in prison together with murder suspect Vladimir Tenoshvili. The Atlangiriev brothers are the founders of the Razgulay restaurant; Esaulenko has “his share” in the restaurant. He maintains contacts with the leaders of the Lyubertsy organized crime group, and in his commercial activities uses the services of Chechens. At the football club, Esaulenko is closest to executive director M. Korotkov and manager S. Khadzhi. If any problems arise, Esaulenko tries to travel outside of Russia, mainly to Spain.”
