The Moscow City Court increased the sentence of ex-investigator of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee Gray Efendiev for mediation in a bribe from 4 years in a general regime colony to 7 years, according to a decision published in the court database. The prosecutor’s office did not agree with the lenient sentence that the Basmanny Court handed down by changing the category of the crime from especially serious to serious crime and filed a motion.

As follows from the verdict, Major Efendiev at the beginning of 2020 was appointed to the position of investigator for particularly important cases of the 1st Investigation Department of the Directorate for Investigation of Past Crimes of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. A few months later, he approached his colleague, investigator S.A. Sorokin, who was handling a case of involving minors in prostitution, and offered to leave one of the defendants named Usov in the status of a witness for 5 million rubles; Efendiyev planned 1 million of this amount keep for the mediation.
