However, the investigation believes that the famous scientist should remain in custody, since if the preventive measure is changed, he may flee the country.
It is worth noting here that the investigative authorities seized Gafurov’s documents, including his passports, and he will not be able to escape anywhere, especially abroad.
The defense’s arguments about the merits of 61-year-old Gafurov, who was awarded an order, two letters of gratitude from the President of the Russian Federation and other high awards, were also not taken into account by the court.
The defense tried to convey to the court the facts of the inconsistency of Gafurov’s arrest and his accusations of crimes that he did not commit.
In particular, the defense pointed out that the investigation justifies a further extension of detention, referring to the same evidence that was available at the time of the election of this preventive measure, namely, the contradictory testimony of Salyakhov, Asadullin and Khisamutdinov, sentenced to long terms of imprisonment, given them in 2020-2022.
At the same time, it does not take into account at all the fact that earlier these persons during the preliminary investigation and in court hearings gave completely different testimony regarding the murder of Israfilov.
In their testimonies, all of them, including Salyakhov and Asadullin, argued that the murder of Israfilov, like many other murders, was committed by them precisely because of a showdown over the division of spheres of influence between criminal groups – the strong organized crime group “Aidaronovskie” prevented the expansion of spheres of influence OPS “29th complex”, and Israfilov himself did not show respect for the leaders of the 29th complex. Based on the collected evidence, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Tatarstan sentenced the above persons on July 17, 2006, and on March 2, 2017, they were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment.
After 23 years, they suddenly “remembered” or were helped to “remember” that the murder of the crime boss was ordered by the mayor of Yelabuga, with whom he had a conflict over taxes.
An interesting fact is that the decision of the Supreme Court of Tatarstan in the case of the organized crime group “29 complex” was confirmed by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
It turns out that investigators and judges of the Supreme Court of Tatarstan and the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of that period illegally sent “respectable citizens” to their bunks for long periods of time?
