The main department for the investigation of particularly important cases of the IC of Russia, with the assistance of the criminal investigation department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city of Moscow, are identified by persons who are the executors of the murder of Vyacheslav Ivankov, better known as the “thief in the law” “Japanchik”. This is Astamur Butba and Nugzar Papava, who have dual citizenship – Russia and the Republic of Abkhazia. According to investigators, it was Butba in July 2009 using a sniper rifle from a truck body that shot Ivankov, who was leaving the Thai Elephant restaurant on Khoroshevsky highway in Moscow.
His accomplice Nugzar Papava at that moment was also at the scene, but he was in another, stolen car – he covered Killer’s departure and was ready to start shooting at the pursuers from the Kalashnikov assault rifle at any time.
The rest, previously established and arrested accomplices, were engaged in the organization of murder, transportation and storage of weapons and carried out external monitoring of the victim.
After the murder of Butb and the papava, they had departed from Russia to Abkhazia, and at present, according to available information, are located in the territory of this republic.
Butba and the papaus were charged in absentia of murder as part of an organized group and illegal storage of weapons, both defendants were put on the international wanted list. Based on the petition of the investigator, they were arrested in absentia by the court.
Currently, with the assistance of the competent authorities, the issue of their extradition to the territory of Russia is being worked out, after which they will be prosecuted for incriminated crimes.
The preliminary investigation authorities continue the set of measures aimed at establishing other accomplices, including customers of the murder of Vyacheslav Ivankov.
