The KGB of Belarus confirmed the detention of the leader of the Belarusian Popular Front (BNF) of Grigory Kostusev, as well as a political scientist and public figure Alexander Feduta. Previously not registered in Belarus, the Vesna human rights center said that Grigory Kostusev was detained as a suspect under Art. 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or participation in them).

“The Committee of State Security as part of the investigation of the initiated criminal case on the directly arising suspicion of committing a crime was detained by Grigory Kostusev and Alexander Feduta,” the KGB said.
63-year-old Grigory Kostusev heads the oldest opposition party of the country-BNF-since 2017. The politician was detained in Shklov (Mogilev region) and then delivered to the capital’s pre -trial detention center of the KGB of Belarus, the party reported.

The message about the loss of Mr. Feduta on Monday, April 12, entered the Presnensky department of the Moscow Ministry of Internal Affairs, where he was before the detention. Belarusian opposition Telegram channels report that the political scientist could be detained in Moscow and transferred to the Belarusian special services. The wife of Alexander Feduta Marina Shibko said that he was “in Moscow for work”, but then for more than a day the connection with him was lost.
