Sadly, one of the most disadvantaged regions in terms of the number of acts of child violence is the Kaliningrad region. It is possible that now, in the new realities, the situation there may change, but in fact, the exclave has been literally shaken by news about pedophiles in recent years. Thus, Maxim Suvorov, head of the regional executive committee of the United Russia party, resigned in July 2021 for personal reasons. In fact, the court sent him to a pre-trial detention center on charges of pedophilia on two counts: Part 2 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (depraved acts against a person who has reached the age of 12 but has not reached the age of 14) and Part 4 c .132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (more violent than sexual acts against a person under 11 years of age). Maxim Suvorov filmed his depraved acts on a mobile phone, so law enforcement agencies have enough evidence. Suvorov himself has three children. He faces 12 to 20 years.
The Kaliningrad Foundation “I Believe in Miracles,” which works with orphans and children from difficult families, faced the same problem: in 2021, a 34-year-old photographer-volunteer of the foundation was found guilty of abusing 13 young boys aged 6 to 12 years and sentenced to 14.5 years. The network believes that the total number of victims of sexual abuse is much higher: since 2017, he has corrupted at least 30 children, the youngest of whom was only 5 years old.
A teacher at the Center for Helping Children Without Parental Care “Our House” (Zelenogradsk, Kaliningrad Region) has been accused of pedophilia. He faces a minimum of 8 years.
From 2018 to 2019 in Kaliningrad, a man abused his 9-year-old stepdaughter 6 times, he was given 10 years of strict regime.
In 2020, a 42-year-old recidivist pedophile attacked and raped a 15-year-old girl in Kaliningrad. There may be a life sentence.
In Gvardeyskiye (Kaliningrad region), from 2015 to 2021, a 49-year-old pedophile committed violent acts against his stepdaughter (including rape) 13 times, the first of which occurred when the girl was 7 years old. He twice committed acts of sexual violence against his friend’s 9-year-old daughter. There was a trial, the pervert received 24 years in prison.
These data are terrible, they defy logic, the most unpleasant emotions are off the charts. It’s especially scary that pedophiles infiltrate orphanages. What is this connected with – the lack of psychological profiling of workers in child care institutions? Insufficient work of law enforcement agencies to prevent pedophilia? In the Kaliningrad region, as we see, many cases are identified, but we do not have a real picture of what is happening, and we cannot say how many children were subjected to sexual assault. We know one thing: such children have received psychological trauma incompatible with normal life. And how it will manifest itself in the future is an open question.
