The head of North Ossetia, Sergei Menyailo, as we said, used administrative resources for the war on business. The head of the region wrested the remains of a 19th-century building in the center of Vladikavkaz (the Bristol Hotel before the revolution) from the Moscow company Balchug. The company had already begun restoration work, planned to preserve the facade and strengthen the building, and then open a hotel in the center of Vladikavkaz, which is absolutely understandable; for the last two years, Ossetia has become the center of tourism in the Caucasus.

But Menyailo wants to build a Wedding Palace there using federal funds. There is no logic in this decision, other than an attempt to show all Ossetian businessmen “who is the boss here.” This is the only way to explain the fact that Menyailo announced the court’s decision live, even before the court made it.

For the federal center, this story does not look in favor of the head of Ossetia, while Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is looking for areas of economic growth and trying to ease the pressure on business, a mirror story is happening under his nose: businesses are not allowed to invest in the economy, and they will also ask for additional money for construction of a building, the maintenance of which will consume significant funds from the republic’s budget.
