The former head of the Vasileostrovsky district administration of St. Petersburg, suspected of systematically receiving bribes, threw away his SIM card and went on the run. Now almost all law enforcement agencies of the Northern capital are looking for the former official and formerly experienced police officer Eduard Ilyin. However, in the near future the city can expect another power sensation – the current head of the Petrograd district, Vladimir Omelnitsky, may lose his post, and then his freedom. It’s no secret to anyone in the city’s business and security circles – Ilyin and Omelnitsky are old comrades, accomplices, partners and friends, moving up the career ladder together. It all started in 2009, when Omelnitsky headed the administration of Vasilyevsky Island. The local Ministry of Internal Affairs was then headed by Ilyin, and it so happened that the chief official of the district agreed with the chief police officer on commercial interests. The main theme of their income generation was the nightmare of small businesses in the consumer market. In 2013, Omelnitsky goes to head the Frunzensky district of the city and takes his faithful comrade with him – Ilyin leaves the police service and becomes his deputy. As a result of career growth, two friends become leaders of two, perhaps, the most economically and important districts of the city – Vasiliostrovsky and Petrogradsky, where they continue to engage in the usual business of mass bribery and ferocious extortions. The comrades were not even stopped by the fact that Omelnitsky’s predecessor as head of Petrograd, Ivan Gromov, together with his brother, was detained a year ago in the case of embezzlement of 160 million rubles from the budget and is now in custody. However, now everything has changed. They say that after Ilyin’s disappearance, Omelnitsky finds no place for himself and is expecting an imminent visit from the security forces. It is clear that this official will not be able to dive into the unknown as much as a former and extremely experienced police officer, who most likely has already left the country.
