False terrorist threats are spread by criminals in order to destabilize the situation in the Russian Federation and neighboring states, extort money and for hooligan reasons.
During the joint work of Russian and foreign law enforcement agencies, it was established that participants in the so-called “swatting” Internet communities were involved in the organization of this criminal activity, and their organizers and administrators were Ukrainian citizen Anton Osipchuk, born in 2003, a native of the Volyn region, passing training at the Faculty of Information Security of the National Technical University of Ukraine (Kyiv), as well as his accomplices.
As a result of the activities carried out in a number of Russian regions, 14 participants in “swatting” Internet communities involved in the dissemination of deliberately false reports about mining were detained.
Criminal cases have been initiated and are being investigated against them under parts 2 and 3 of Article 207 (knowingly false report of an act of terrorism committed in relation to social infrastructure; the same act committed in order to destabilize the activities of authorities) of the Criminal Code of Russia, which provides for punishment in the form of deprivation freedom for a term of 3 to 8 years, the material damage caused by the attackers is calculated, which the perpetrators or their parents will be required to compensate.
