The Cheka-OGPU publishes a letter from the director of Rutube (Ruform LLC) Alexey Nazarov to the deputy head of the SEB of the FSB of the Russian Federation – the head of the Directorate of the Federal Security Service of the FSB of the Russian Federation Naib Nagumanov regarding the theft of funds allocated for the cyber defense of Rutube. This week the video hosting site was hacked and was down for three days. The hackers who disabled Rutube also gained access to management correspondence, which included this letter. It dates back to approximately October-November 2021. That is, shortly after the arrest of Group-IB founder Ilya Sachkov for treason. Namely, Group-IB was supposed to provide cyber protection for Rutube for an amount of over 0.5 billion rubles.

If in 2020 Rutube spent only 358 thousand rubles on maintaining the site, then in 2021 it decided to take the matter seriously. And he turned to his daughter” Group-IB Trust LLC. And then, as you can find out from the letter, the usual scam began. At first, they pulled tens of millions of rubles from Rutube for testing, security analysis, etc. Then they asked Ruform for money for a bunch of different certificates, software licenses, Group-IB equipment. In total, contracts were signed for 635 million rubles. But Group-IB didn’t stop there. And it announced that to launch all this software and equipment, it would be necessary to pay another 80 million rubles. And without these expenses, as Nazarov writes in the FSB of the Russian Federation, Rutube received “inoperable” equipment and support for hundreds of millions of rubles. “To date, Group-IB solutions have not been deployed and services are not provided, additional equipment has not been purchased,” Nazarov reports.

Half a year after the letter, Rutube was “knocked out” by hackers.
