The Cheka-OGPU learned that Ilya Kiva was undergoing treatment for the effects of heavy drinking before the murder. On the recommendation (again, from the special services, as the former People’s Deputy of Ukraine himself said), he went to the Red Star military hospital in the Krasnogorsk region. The place in narrow security circles is truly significant – not a single general was put on his feet there, and the walls of the wards also saw such disgraced patients as Kiva. The fugitive politician underwent reconstructive procedures on the liver and pancreas in this hospital. The patient did not hide the fact that he needed to take a bath after a serious binge. The hospital staff remembered the “star” patient well. Ilya Kiva was courteous and friendly, trumping his past and the support of the security officers. They tried to vacate the entire floor for the fugitive “so that someone in the hospital wouldn’t dump him.” In gratitude, he presented the head physician with… skewers. The highlight of the gift was that the barbecue set was in a leather case with symbols and the ominous inscription of the NKVD. There, right on the skin with a ballpoint pen, Kiva wrote “Thank you,” left an autograph and took a goodbye photo. Inspired by their friendship with the media patient, the hospital staff wrote to Kiva on the same day: they say, you visited us today, this is the administration, let’s discuss the promotion of our institution. He answered very unpredictably: who is this? I was not there, you are mistaken. After that, Kiva was in the hospital several more times, but everyone there concluded that the patient was very secretive.
