The Cheka-OGPU became aware of the initiation of a criminal case under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Rehabilitation of Nazism” against employees of the human rights organization “Memorial”. Memorial has been persecuted by the authorities in Russia for a long time. This time I didn’t like the assessment of the USSR’s actions during World War II.

According to the information available to the editors, on 03.03.2023, the investigative department of the Investigative Committee for the Tverskoy District opened a criminal case under Article 354.1 against “unidentified employees of the International Public Organization “International Historical, Educational, Charitable and Human Rights Society “Memorial””. According to the investigation, “employees of the company acted with the aim of publicly denying the facts established by the verdict of the International Military Tribunal…, as well as disseminating deliberately false information about the activities of the USSR during the Second World War, using the media.”

Previously, Memorial was recognized as a foreign agent, then the Moscow City Court decided to liquidate the human rights organization. One of the points indicated by the Prosecutor General’s Office in the liquidation claim was “discrediting government bodies and creating a “false image of the USSR as a terrorist state.”
