The Cheka-OGPU became aware of the identities of those detained for the execution of the Kapkanets family in Volnovakha. The contractors suspected of mass murder are Anton Sopov and Stanislav Rau. Sopov turned 21 in August – he went to serve under a contract immediately after completing his military service. 28-year-old Rau is originally from the Altai Territory, but recently lived with his wife in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Judging by the data from the FSSP databases, both detainees had problems with debts – they could not repay their loans, apparently that is why they went to fight under a contract with the Ministry of Defense. It is interesting that the fathers of Rau and Sopov had previous convictions and were on the federal wanted list for various crimes. Also, Sopov’s parent, a native of the Primorsky Territory, Ruslan Sopov, has been at the Myrotvorets base since 2016 as a serviceman of the air defense division of the 60th Motorized Rifle Brigade (military unit 16871), a truck driver of the Russian Armed Forces and a participant in combat operations.

Previously, Stanislav Rau and Anton Sopov are on the territory of Donetsk near Volnovakha as volunteer contract soldiers of the 155th separate Guards Order of Zhukov Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet.

According to the source, one of the killers was taken from home – he lived not far from the cottage where the Kapkanets family was found shot. The other accused was found a little later. During the initial investigative actions, Sopov and Rau admitted that they only wanted to get even with the men – Eduard and his son Alexander, who allegedly offended them. According to the detainees, they killed the women and children by accident, as they could not recognize the victims in the dark. Presumably, the shooting was carried out from special “Val” assault rifles.
