The Cheka-OGPU became aware of the details of the scandal involving the renovation of Butyrka at the expense of prisoners. According to the source, in 2021 there were many wealthy people on the so-called “Governor’s Prodol” of Butyrka. These are the defendants in the “Landromat case” Alexey Sobolev and Lev Pakhomov, the defendants in the “Abyzov case”, Dmitry Mazurov, Evgeny Livshits, Ruslan Suleymanov. Some of them decided to chip in to clean up the pre-trial detention center. To begin with, 26 million rubles were collected, which were transferred to the detention center as financial assistance. However, then the following happened. Quite quickly, many of those prisoners who participated in this voluntary event were “moved” to other, unrepaired cells. This caused a wave of discontent. And then the FSIN Internal Affairs Directorate became interested in the prisoner who was responsible for collecting funds for the repairs. Allegedly, he asked for money in order to stay in these cells. After this, inspections began that continue to this day.
