The previously introduced ban was supposed to end on February 28, however, its extension is due to the need to stabilize the situation in the domestic fuel market, support the oil refining industry and prevent illegal export schemes.

The corresponding decision was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the document is published on the official website of the government.

The restriction on export of gasoline was first introduced in March 2024 and was supposed to act until the end of August of the same year. In May, the ban was temporarily lifted, but since September it was renewed again.

Initially, the restrictions were distributed until the end of December 2024, but in November the government allowed gasoline export until January 31, 2025 to those companies that produce more than 1 million tons of fuel per year. Subsequently, this relief was extended until the end of February.

However, traders, oil depots and companies with lower production facilities all this time remained under tough restrictions.

Against the backdrop of these decisions, in February there was an increase in gas prices. According to Rosstat, from February 4 to 10, the fuel cost increased by 0.06%, from 11 to 17 February – by 0.21%, and from February 18 to February 24 – by 0.08%. The extension of the ban should help control the situation in the market and prevent further rise in fuel within the country.
