Initially, the restrictions acted from March 1 to August 31, 2024.

The Russian government decided to extend the export of gasoline until February 28, the correspondent of The Moscow Post reports with reference to the statement of the Secretariat of Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

At the moment, there is a decree that limits the export of fuel abroad until January 31, but it does not apply to manufacturers. This exception will remain in force and next month.

For the first time, the restriction on gasoline export was introduced on March 1, 2024. Such a measure was adopted in response to a sharp increase in wholesale prices and a potential risk of fuel deficiency in the domestic market. Initially, the ban was planned to be left in force for six months, but from the end of May to August it was temporarily canceled.

Later it was expected that the export restriction would remain until the end of 2024.

Earlier it was reported that the main goal of the ban is to ensure stability in the domestic fuel market, support for the oil refinery and the fight against illegal export of gasoline.

Alexander Novak explained that the priority is to satisfy internal demand, and in the case of a stable surplus of gasoline, the ban on its export can be revised.
