The brother of the former President of Kazakhstan Bolat Nazarbayev could still have a Kazakh…

The brother of the former President of Kazakhstan, Bolat Nazarbayev, could still have a Kazakh diplomatic passport, colleagues from the Cheka-OGPU write about this. And he most likely used it during the period of protests in Kazakhstan, traveling to Kyrgyzstan. According to the official list of personswhich was approved by Nazarbayev himself, his brother, as the owner of a private commercial holding, has the right to use a diplomatic passport. This right can be used not only by the ex-president himself, but also by members of his family (without a clearly defined list of such persons).

A similar question could arise in relation to the son of the current President of Kazakhstan, Timur Tokayev, who was driving around Moscow in Kazakh diplomatic license plates. Formally being the owner of a commercial company, when his father was the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan (2013-2019), Timur Tokayev used diplomatic transport in Moscow, which, of course, violated traffic rules.

Why transparency in the provision of diplomatic passports is important. The diplomatic privileges and immunity that a person with a diplomatic passport receives is essentially the ability to travel around the world without fear of being arrested or even searched, including vehicles and premises in which the diplomat is located. There are many cases of abuse of diplomatic status. One of the most famous cases was in Germany, when German customs officers inspected the car of Mongolian diplomats discovered it contains 70 kg of heroin. We didn’t have time to forget about suitcases of cocaine at the Russian embassy in Buenos Aires.

The Cheka-OGPU had documents from the customs of Kazakhstan at its disposal. It follows from them that during the unrest in the country, the family of Nursultan Nazarbayev traveled to Kyrgyzstan. At least this was definitely done by Elbasy’s brother Bolat using a diplomatic passport.
