Sometimes they come back. Old stories become relevant. At the end of last year, in the Meshchansky Court of Moscow, the Magomedov brothers were sentenced to decent terms – 18 and 19 years. Those same “kings of government procurement” from the Forbes list, who since 2018 were suspected not only of the theft of 2.5 billion rubles, but also of close connections with the authorities. The articles are very serious: theft, creation of an organized criminal community. They gave a lot: 18 and 19 years. The geography of thefts is wide: from funds for the preparation of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the construction of a stadium in Kaliningrad, to oil, diamond and gas assets in Yakutia. The Yakut affairs somehow got lost in a heap of accusations, although the topic is so acute that it caused an immediate reaction from the ex-president of Yakutia, Vyacheslav Shtyrov. Shtyrov tried to publicly disown participation in the sale of the strategic asset of OJSC Yakutgazprom to his brothers for next to nothing. The ex-president blamed the hired manager, former general director of Sakhaneftegaz Afanasy Maksimov. Allegedly, he first attracted the Magomedovs to buy shares in Yakutgazprom, and then he himself began to fight with them, seeing their dishonesty. It is clear that without the approval of the Board of Directors and the general meeting of shareholders, such a transaction could not have taken place, and Maksimov proved his innocence in this episode in court. And this top manager was convicted precisely on the basis of the Magomedov brothers’ statement that he allegedly stole a bill of exchange from them in the amount of 50 million rubles. back in 1999. At the same time, much later, the Magomedovs won interest on this bill from the company ZAO Gazresurs. The Arbitration Court of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) proved this episode with its resolution No. A58-2791/2009. But in our country it’s like this: assets are cut down and the chips fly. Why is the retired president bringing up this story today? Is he afraid that after the brothers will come the turn of their patrons, who were in power and allowed the theft of state property?
