Since mid-December 2021, under various pretexts, the Moscow City Court has not held hearings in the case of the murder of businessman Shabtai Kalmanovich. Everything is heading towards the fact that the jury may be disbanded altogether. And it seems that this is being done deliberately. The investigation was unable to provide evidence of the defendants’ guilt. And the attempt to find a motive on the fly ended in failure.

Articles 105 and 222 (murder and illegal possession of weapons) of the Criminal Code were brought against Ali Belkhoroev, Batyr Tumgoev, Bagaudin Kostoev. According to investigators, Kostoev shot the victim, Belkhoroev was driving the car, and Tumgoev was watching the victim. However, it is obvious that they decided to raise materials about an 11-year-old crime solely as part of the fight against the Batalkhadzhin people, in which the accused were also blamed. (in the news itself they say that the defendants have not been one of them for a long time).

The investigation was unable to find any solid evidence of the guilt of this trio. For 10 years, operatives have not been able to find the car of the criminals, the weapon itself from which they were shot, witnesses who saw the killers, etc.

As for the motives and the customer, the situation here at the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for Moscow was worse than ever. According to the case materials, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation put forward a version that Kalmanovich could have been ordered by his ex-wife Anastasia, the producer of the singer Zemfira. But it was not possible to find confirmation of this version. As a result, the case went to court without a motive, but they tried to correct the situation right during the hearings.

An unexpected witness spoke in court – a former official of the Leninsky district of Vidnoye, who suddenly, casually, stated that the killer looked like the man who shot at him. And allegedly, together with Kalmanovich, he fought a slaughterhouse located in the vicinity of Vidnoye and next to the base of the women’s BC “Spartak” (owned by Kalmanovich). They say that because of the slaughterhouse there was an attempt on his life and they could have killed Kalmanovich.

However, to the questions where the fact of Kalmanovich’s dissatisfaction with the slaughterhouse was at least somehow recorded, why the witness was silent about this during the investigation, why he didn’t talk about it when Kalmanovich was killed, the witness could not answer anything.

He was clearly not ready for any questions at all. As a result, the attempt to “stuff” the version turned out to be unconvincing and since then no hearings on the “Kalmanovich case” have been held at all.
