Since the beginning of the war unleashed by Putin, Russia has found itself under strict sanctions. Many foreign companies left the country, for example, Siemens, which supplied and serviced Sapsan aircraft for Russian Railways. Many people close to Putin’s circle were subject to personal sanctions. But not all.
For example, Viktor Shendrik, the head of the Russian Railways security service, was not subject to sanctions. He was promoted to this position in 2016 by one of Putin’s closest friends, Arkady Rotenberg.
The position of the head of the security department is one of the most important in the state monopoly. Therefore, Rotenberg entrusted it to his business partner:
“Shendrik didn’t want to go to Russian Railways, Arkady Rotenberg persuaded him. He [Виктор] plays the role of looking away from him [Аркадия]so that nothing in the company is stolen,” – explains the interlocutor @istories_media.
Shendrik coped with his role quite successfully, and even managed to combine work in a state monopoly with owning businesses in Germany. Although Russian law prohibits employees of state-owned companies from having shares in foreign companies.
