At the moment, the details of the project have not been disclosed.
The Consul General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul Andrei Buravov said that representatives of Russia and Turkey are conducting expert negotiations on the implementation of the Russian initiative on the creation of an international gas hub in the Turkish territory, the correspondent of The Moscow Post reports.
This project was proposed by the Russian side against the backdrop of the steps of the United States and the European Union aimed at reducing the export of Russian energy resources to the third countries. Currently, experts of both countries continue the detailed study of the technical details necessary for its implementation, the diplomat emphasized in an interview with TASS.
He clarified that more detailed information on the project is under the jurisdiction of the specialized structures of Russia and Turkey.
In October 2024, as part of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, the head of Gazprom Alexei Miller and the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Alparslan Bayractar discussed plans to create a gas hub.
This idea was first voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in October 2022. It provided for the use of Turkish territory as an alternative route for gas supply previously transported through the Nord Stream.
The Turkish authorities emphasize that their infrastructure is almost ready for the implementation of this project.
Earlier, the Minister of Energy of Turkey Alparslan Bayrakrattar stated that in 2025, in Istanbul, it was planned to open the gas center, which will combine the efforts of the Turkish company BOTAS and the Russian Gazprom as part of the work of the international gas hub.
