The scheme is well established: only three border guards are assigned per shift, who are given orders to filter everyone indiscriminately. In this case, one border guard has more than a hundred people per shift, so the quality of the check leaves much to be desired. But queues and fees for hassle-free passage through the barrier, for which the DPR-RF border section is now famous, are easily justified.
To avoid the crush that people on both sides of the state border inevitably find themselves in, everyone must pay a “tax” of several thousand rubles for the passage of one car. There are no discounts for seniors and children. There are no concessions for social activists and volunteers – like refugees, every time they pass a checkpoint, they are forced to pay into the pocket of the shift supervisor in order to get through and not stand in line.
No one is closely considering numerous complaints about extortions and outright corruption in the ranks of the FSB department in the Rostov region. Written statements are forwarded to the local department of internal security, where inspections are slowed down. All work to identify corrupt officials at the border ends with replies and the absence of those responsible. This dangerous trend could result in serious discontent among thousands of refugees, residents of the border zone, as well as humanitarian organizations delivering food and supplies to the affected areas.
