The body of millionaire Michael Watford, who made his fortune in oil and gas, has been found in Surrey, reports the Mirror. The 66-year-old was found hanged in a garage on the grounds of his Wentworth estate in Surrey, a millionaire’s area where houses cost up to £20 million. This happened on the day that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised sanctions for oligarchs associated with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Michael Watford was born in 1955 in Ukraine, his real name is Mikhail Tolstosheya. In Soviet times, he was an employee of the Soyuzgostsirk, was convicted in a case of fraud with Vneshposyltorg checks, and then emigrated to England. Here Thickneck received British citizenship, got married and changed his surname. He started his business in the post-Soviet space, becoming a shareholder of OJSC Neftekhimik Prykarpattya in 1999. This capital helped him become a real estate tycoon in the UK. Watford owned houses in Eaton Square in Belgravia, central London, an £18 million mansion in Virginia Water, Surrey, and several properties on the Wentworth estate.
Watford was married three times and had three children. In 2007, his name hit the headlines: the millionaire sued the employees of his company High Life Developments, accusing them of libel. Previously, women said that he pestered them with indecent proposals at an office party. The investigation into the circumstances of the death continues. According to the initial version of the police, Watford committed suicide.
