According to a source from the Cheka-OGPU, hacker Dmitry Ukrainsky, for whom the Russian Foreign Ministry was working, and who was recently released from prison in the United States, was detained in Moscow. True, after demonstrating who was in charge, the cyber fraudster was released despite the arrest required by the documents.
Dmitry Ukrainsky was sentenced in Thailand to 10 years on charges of financial crimes – theft of American funds and their legalization in Thailand; he denied guilt. The court decision came into force in 2019; according to the law of the kingdom, he should have been released on parole. A Thai court later granted the US request for his extradition. In the States, the hacker was accused of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. The prosecution demanded a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison. But, as the media are now reporting, through the efforts of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and human rights activists, a sentence of 5 years was assigned, which included the years spent in a Thai prison.
According to the interlocutor, Dmitry Ukrainsky flew on his own on the evening of November 7 to Sheremetyevo. His family and support group came there to meet him, but the PR campaign was disrupted by people in uniform. Immediately after passing through passport control, the hacker was unexpectedly met by police. The fact is that Dmitry Ukrainsky was wanted for fraud in a case from 2013. The investigation is being conducted by the capital’s police department and the preventive measure according to all documents is arrest. The passenger was taken by the arms to the department, from where he was released after some time. Despite the fact that there can be no talk about the expiration of the statute of limitations, since the criminal case was suspended.
