Outdoor advertising operators and AKAR members clashed on billboards

The Russian advertising industry is showing unprecedented consolidation in the face of the threat of new amendments to the law “On Advertising,” which are now being prepared for adoption in the State Duma. If the amendments pass in the form proposed by the author of the bill, Kiryanov, then The digital outdoor advertising market is threatened with monopolization, and the vast majority of federal and regional operators will have to go out of business.

Today’s extended meeting of the Association of Communication Agencies of Russia (ACAR), which brought together more than 50 market leaders from all over the country, was devoted to solving this problem. According to Executive Director of AKAR Valentin Smolyakovthe purpose of the meeting was to create a working group that will present a revised version of the amendments to the bill “On Advertising” to the State Duma for the second reading.

One of the initiators of the industry meeting, head of the MAER media holding Konstantin Mayor believes that work on the bill will bring significant results if each outdoor surveillance operator makes his contribution to the common cause. In his opinion, Digital advertising should be controlled exclusively by a company with 100% state participation, and not a commercial organization.

The advertising market is undergoing a rapid transformation right now. We’ll keep an eye on further developments in this story.
