Our editors received a whole investigation in relation to the current deputy governor of the Irkutsk region, and former head of the region’s investigative committee, Andrey Bunev. What is revealed in the material is more true. Bunev and the former governor of the region, Sergei Eroshchenko, used criminal cases as a tool to combat undesirable mayors. More than once we have received confirmation of Bunev’s connection with big business – the same Dmitry Matsenko – the former owner of the SPAR chain and the Silvermall shopping mall (he is now in jail and accused of arson) and the well-known businesswoman Tatyana Kazakova in the region. Bunev provided patronage to both entrepreneurs – he opened criminal cases against his opponents. After leaving the Investigative Committee, Bunev became deputy governor of the region and began to oversee the forest industry, actively promoting the interests of the Russian Forest Group, which was able to acquire a huge timber resource base for next to nothing. And all this with the support of Bunev. Moreover, in addition to the priority projects that RLG received, the company essentially freely carried out raider takeovers of local enterprises in the north of the region, again under the cover of Bunev. The current governor, Igor Kobzev, has repeatedly tried to get rid of the toxic deputy, but his connections in Moscow allowed Bunev to remain in power.
