#Openlux: stories about top managers of Russian Railways, Rosneft and Gazprom

Luxembourg is a small but rich European state. So many investment companies, banks and funds are registered there that about two companies account for each resident of the capital. All thanks to low taxes and the ability to maintain anonymity.

Journalists of the French publication Le Monde gained access to the documents of all companies registered in Luxembourg. @istories_Media have become the only project partner in Russia.

We found more than a thousand Russians in the Luxembourg Archive. Most of all we were interested in business managers of state-owned companies and people close to them.

What we learned:

🔹 In 2014, Rosneft bought a share in the tire giant Pirelli. Money for the purchase of 13% of the shares – almost 553 million euros – was found “at the expense of pension funds and financial institutions.”

@istories_Media learned that in fact, the Pirelli shares were not at Rosneft, but people close to the company’s management. And people who were far from a big business were completely involved in a deal – for example, a dance teacher from Moscow.

🔹 Sergei Tony is only 33 years old, and he already owns real estate, which costs at least 50 million euros. An old castle near Paris, villas on the Cote d’Azur, an estate in Prague, an apartment in the most expensive area of London, hotels in the Netherlands – and that is not all.

Where does such assets come from? Perhaps this is somehow due to the fact that he is the son of the top manager of Russian Railways Oleg Tony?
