On the evening of Tuesday, March 22, the noisiest and most crime-rich Dumskaya street in the center of St. Petersburg greeted passers-by with amazing desertion. The fact is that two dozen entertainment establishments with a very dubious reputation in a huge building on the corner of Dumskaya and Lomonosovskaya streets were closed. As can be seen in photographs taken by eyewitnesses, the establishments were sealed by the Investigative Committee of the Central District of St. Petersburg as “material evidence.” Of the entire central complex of the “Dumsky” entertainment district, so popular among young people and those who like to have fun and inexpensively, only a couple of banal eateries remain open. Earlier, information appeared in the media that the establishments were closed due to a criminal case initiated by the investigative department of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee in the Central District under Article 151 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (involving a minor in committing antisocial actions). A source of the Cheka-OGPU in the bar community of St. Petersburg reported that the closure of the establishments was allegedly preceded by the poisoning of a minor with nitrogen “balls” – a popular, semi-legal entertainment for visitors to the Dumskaya. Allegedly, a teenage girl went to the hospital with serious poisoning (perhaps they were talking about other, completely illegal drugs), and since it was not possible to immediately determine the specific establishment where the poisoning occurred, the Investigative Committee cleaned up all the approximately suitable hot spots in the neighborhood ( To be honest, we don’t think that the investigators got carried away – as our interlocutors suggest, various crap is sold under the counter in all such establishments in Dumskaya). It should be noted that poisonings with the same “balls” on Dumskaya periodically have much more tragic consequences. Thus, in February 2019, a young native of Azerbaijan passed out while driving after inhaling “balloons” and hit several pedestrians on Nevsky Prospekt with his BMW X6. As a result, two passersby died on the spot, three went to the hospital with serious injuries. In 2020, the culprit was sentenced to 8.5 years in a general regime colony.
