Apparently the court of first instance “turned away” from the evidence of the innocence of Sergei Kurkov, whose work experience is confirmed by numerous recognitions of merit in his native region both in the field of health care and in the field of philanthropy and charity, which is why they passed a verdict in November last year that defies any reasonable explanation. Because the businessman was provoked into giving a bribe by a group of dubious high-ranking figures from the local Ministry of Health, specialists “led” the developments, and they put pressure on him in the media, he was sentenced to 4 years in a maximum security colony.
Most of the exculpatory evidence was simply rejected by the court. The examination of procurement documents, phonoscopic and linguistic examinations on the installation of recordings of conversations and inducement to give a bribe are not taken into account. The words of the provocateur Gashkov (at that time the Minister of Health of the region), said by him personally during interrogation in court, that he said everything as a joke, “asking” for kickbacks from the businessman, generally fell on deaf ears, as did the facts that emerged during the trial the Ministry of Health commission recognized the purchases as justified (for which the bribe was allegedly paid) several months before Kurkov’s meetings with Gashkov. Recording a businessman persistently summoned for a conversation on a special device with which an already recruited “agent” was equipped, juggling names and numbers, Gashkov lied at the trial that it was a recording on a phone. The only problem is that Kurkov’s words about a bribe are nowhere to be seen on the recordings, in contrast to Gashkov’s inducement to give a bribe.

And about the numerous violations of Kurkov’s rights by law enforcement officers, which, according to the conclusion of a scientific and legal examination, in principle make it illegal to initiate a criminal case, the prosecution and the court completely forgot.
A reasonable question: why was a 60-year-old man, a group 2 disabled person, with 3 stents in his heart, convicted? And who will be responsible for the possible fatal outcome of this theater of the absurd?
