On May 7, an emergency hearing was held in the Presnensky District Court: Judge Olga Kiselkova considered the medical documents of the ex-co-owner of the 1520 Group of Companies Valery Markelov, who is one of the defendants in the case of ex-Colonel Zakharchenko. About a month ago it became known that Markelov was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in a serious stage with numerous metastases. Details – in the report of the VChK-OGPU correspondent

According to the law, such a diagnosis obliges him to be released for immediate treatment (this is what was prescribed to him by the medical report submitted to the Presnensky Court before the May holidays), which was supposed to begin on April 25. Medical documents went from Lefortovo (where Markelov is being held) to the Presnensky court for several days (Markelov’s lawyers consider this an artificial delay in resolving the issue of treatment), until, finally, an unscheduled meeting was scheduled for 12-00 on May 7.

According to all forecasts, Markelov should have been released for treatment right in the courtroom, but events took a strange turn. Markelov was not brought to court (“for reasons unknown to the court,” Kiselkova said), and citing this, the state prosecutor petitioned that in his absence the issue of urgent hospitalization should not be decided. It should be noted that the law does not require the presence of the accused in person to make a decision on the initiation of treatment, but Judge Kiselkova immediately granted Digaeva’s request and postponed the court hearing until May 11, leaving Markelov in custody.
